A founder mastermind is a structured peer group: a fixed cohort of founders or CEOs, a facilitator, a meeting cadence, and usually a framework for goal-setting and accountability. The good ones are vetted hard and run for years.

They are also a real line item. Published membership guides put paid online groups around $100–$1,000 a month, and the flagship CEO organizations well into five figures a year — Vistage, YPO, and EO all sit between roughly $9,000 and $19,000 annually once dues and fees are counted. That price buys structure, and for founders who need imposed discipline, it can be worth every dollar.

What a Founder Dinner Does Instead

A founder dinner removes the apparatus. No facilitator, no framework, no goal-tracking spreadsheet — six people, one table, one honest conversation, on a rhythm. The bet is that founders who know each other well do not need a moderator to be useful; they need a room where nobody is performing.

The dinner also produces something a curriculum cannot: a community where the other five actually know your company. When one of them makes an introduction or reads your term sheet, it lands with context.

How to Choose

Choose a mastermind when what you lack is structure: you want assigned accountability, a facilitator who keeps score, and a formal network at scale. The big organizations are good at exactly that.
