Mastermind Groups,
Honestly Explained

Some are rooms. Some are products.

What a Mastermind Is

A mastermind group is a recurring meeting of peers who work each other’s problems — usually a facilitated hot-seat: one member lays out a decision, the room interrogates it. When the room is honest and the members are real peers, the format works.

The mechanism is not the structure. It is candor plus consistency. Any format that produces those two things — including a dinner table — produces the result.

When They Work, and When They’re Theater

A mastermind earns its keep when the members carry comparable weight, the confidentiality is absolute, and nobody in the room is selling to the room. Break any of those and it decays into content with chairs.

The branded end of the market runs into five figures a year, and some of it is worth it. We compared the options honestly here — costs, trade-offs, and where a free table of six beats a paid program.

The Table Alternative

Outwork is deliberately not a mastermind: no curriculum, no facilitator, no hot-seat clock. Six people at a standing dinner, every last Tuesday, with the honesty a small room makes possible.

What that trades away is structure. What it buys is the thing structure tries to simulate — people who actually know you. Request a seat and judge the trade yourself.

Questions

What is a mastermind group?
A recurring peer group that works its members’ real problems, typically in facilitated hot-seat rounds. The value is candor and consistency, not the format.
How much do mastermind groups cost?
Anywhere from free peer circles to five-figure annual programs at the branded end. The comparison page lays out the ranges and what you get.
Mastermind vs. networking group — what’s the difference?
A networking group grows your surface area; a mastermind deepens a fixed set of relationships. Most people need the second and keep buying the first.
Is Outwork a mastermind?
No. It is a six-seat dinner and the working relationships that come off it. Closer to the room a mastermind is trying to manufacture.
